    • Located in a New Mexico Kitchen and noted by viewers as "This is An Authentic Experience!" DL Free    "After seeing Empanada Day for the first time I realized Gold was captured in the moment." Conrad Gomez, 2008 LPA Feature Fellow  Empanada Day: Gathering Generations, locates four generations of mothers and daughters of the same family learning to prepare empanada fruit filled fried pies; an authentic experience reflecting Latina identity and their legacy--possibly the last known to them and future generations.  This is a New Mexican film that makes people stop and think about their own family recipes and experience.  Its like biting into a hot chile, once you get a taste you cant ignore it.  Producers note: Empanada Day was originally shot as a home video.  Being a filmmaker,  I couldn't resist editing it in documentary style, then sharing a story that inspires viewers to think about their own family and the way traditional recipies impress upon us who we are as a family, as women and as latinas.  After screenings the New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase followed by Austin at MALI Women's Film and Performance Festival in May 09, this homemade video has become the inspiration to develop a more indepth documentary about latina identiy by examining the lives and perceptions of the same generations of women.  Enjoy!
